Who we are

Shorts vs Pants is operated by Phil Dudzinski. Questions, privacy requests and complaints can be sent to support@shortsvspants.com.

The app does not require an account. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.

Location and place searches

If you choose current location, the app requests foreground location permission. Coordinates are sent to the Shorts vs Pants service to retrieve local weather and may be used by your device to produce a friendly place label. You can decline permission and search manually.

Typed place searches are processed through the Shorts vs Pants service and Google Places. Google may process the search text, a broad location bias and technical request information. Shorts vs Pants does not include search text or precise coordinates in analytics events or application logs.

Weather, recommendations and device storage

Coordinates and forecast settings are processed by our protected service and Apple Weather to return current, hourly and daily weather. Activity and comfort choices are applied on your device to produce clothing recommendations.

The app stores preferences, activity, temperature unit, recent or selected places and a temporary forecast cache on your device. You can remove this information by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

Analytics and diagnostics

The mobile app uses PostHog's EU Cloud to record deliberately named product events such as forecast success or failure, broad permission outcomes, screens viewed, activity and preference changes, and feedback submission status. Events include an anonymous app identifier plus general app, operating-system and device-class information.

PostHog session replay and touch autocapture are disabled. For people who leave analytics enabled, PostHog uses the request IP address to estimate a city, postcode, country, region, and approximate latitude and longitude. These are coarse network-based estimates and are not the phone's GPS coordinates. PostHog then discards the client IP address. Analytics events do not contain precise GPS coordinates, full place-search text, feedback messages, names or email addresses. You can turn app analytics off at any time under Me → Privacy & analytics.

The app uses Sentry for production crash reporting. A crash report may contain a stack trace, error message, app version, build number, operating-system version and device model. Sentry is configured not to attach screenshots, view hierarchies, network request details, user identity or default personal information.

The website uses Google Analytics to measure page visits, referring source and campaign, broad location, browser and device information, and clicks on App Store buttons. Google Analytics uses a first-party identifier to distinguish visitors and sessions. The website does not send precise coordinates, place searches, feedback, names or email addresses to Google Analytics, and does not use analytics for advertising or session replay. You can block or clear analytics cookies using your browser settings.

Feedback and support

If you use the feedback form, we store the message, optional name and email, optional app/device diagnostics, submission time and request ID in a dedicated Google Sheet. This information is used to respond, investigate issues and improve the product. It is restricted to people maintaining Shorts vs Pants.

If you email support, your email provider and Google may process the message and address. Please do not include sensitive personal information or precise location unless it is necessary to investigate your request.

Retention and deletion

Temporary weather caches expire automatically. Anonymous analytics and crash reports are reviewed and retained only while useful for product measurement, reliability and security, subject to the service-provider settings described above. Feedback and support records are normally deleted within 12 months after the matter is resolved unless they are still needed for an active issue, security investigation or legal obligation.

You may ask us to access, correct or delete information associated with an email address or feedback submission. Anonymous analytics may not be linkable back to you. We will verify requests where reasonably necessary and respond in accordance with applicable law.

Service providers and overseas processing

We use Apple Weather, Google Places, Google Sheets and Google Analytics, PostHog EU Cloud, Sentry, Vercel and Upstash. Depending on the service and request, information may be processed in Australia, the European Union, the United States and other countries where those providers operate. Their privacy and security practices also apply to information they process.

Children

Shorts vs Pants is a general-audience weather utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly ask children to create accounts or provide personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child has submitted personal information can contact us for deletion.

Security, choices and changes

We use access controls, server-side credentials, request validation, rate limits and provider safeguards designed to protect information. No service can guarantee absolute security.

You can decline or revoke location permission, use manual search, disable analytics, omit optional feedback details and clear local app data. Material policy changes will be posted here with a new effective date and, where appropriate, communicated in the app.
